Longmore and Fairfax
04.02.2008 at 18:51:20

Thomas Longmore was in parntership with my gtx3 grandfather, Charles Fairfax, in 1815, in Birmingham. They were sword cutlers and brass founders (The Wrightson's Birmingham Directory). Does anyone have any info on Charles Fairfax prior to 1815?  Did he work for Longmore before becomming a partner?

I'd be grateful for any info.

Nuala

Hi Nuala,

Welcome to the Forum!  Smiley

I think I've more or less put together the LONGMORE side of this brassfounding family, but I know almost nothing about his connection with Charles FAIRFAX. I believe at one time that they were also involved in the manufacture of bezels for watches and there were a number of watchmakers in the Coventry area. I say "watchmakers", but many were just assemblers of parts bought in from other suppliers.

This Company, its predecessors and successors, certainly deserve some more research effort, but there is little information available, and from here in Crete, none!  Sad

Regards,
