Longmore's of South Shields
15.02.2010 at 18:18:11

Is anyone working on the Longmore's of South Shields?
I have just started this line of research and would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has already done a bit of digging.

I've started with Elizabeth Blakey Longmore b. 1897. I cannot find her on the 1901 census. Which is a bit odd as I can find her living at home on the 1911 census.

Hello Lynn,

Welcome to the Forum!  Cheesy

Well the parents and two siblings, Ann & John, are living in the same street in 1901 at number 267. My guess is that she is staying with a friend or relation somewhere and her surname has not been recorded as LONGMORE. You could do a search of other houses in the street looking for an Elizabeth born in 1897, but even if you find one, you still can't be certain without a lot of cross checking. On the face of it, it seems to be a question of incorrect recording. If you find one that meets the criterion and is also a visitor, you may be onto a winner.

Regards,
